The Georgia quarter was designed by T. James Ferrell. Georgia was admitted to the Union on January 2, 1788. It was the 4th state. The outline of the state of Georgia appears to have left out Dade County. In 1860, Dade residents voted to secede from Georgia, which was never legally recognized, and Dade residents chose to "rejoin" in 1945.
